At Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland (RMHC SEQ), our volunteer drivers play a pivotal role in keeping everything moving. They’re the friendly faces behind the wheel, ensuring families can get to hospital appointments, transporting supplies between our Houses and Family Rooms, and helping with the countless little tasks that keep our organisation running smoothly.
When Gianni reflects on his journey from the small town of Ingham in North Queensland to volunteering with RMHC SEQ, one theme stands out: a lifelong commitment to making a difference.
Gianni’s story began with an early fascination for computer technology. After completing schooling locally, he launched a career spanning more than four decades in information technology, project management, and strategic consulting. Along the way, he co-founded a software company that specialised in application development and project management. In recent years, Gianni has focused on mentoring early-stage companies in high-growth technology ventures, helping founders innovate in areas such as energy, environmental technology, finance, and social enterprise.
Despite his impressive professional achievements, Gianni felt a pull toward something more personal – giving back to the community.
“I came across an ad by chance. I’d been thinking about doing something meaningful, and Ronald McDonald House felt like the right fit.”

Two years later, Gianni is a dedicated van driver for RMHC SEQ, supporting families with ill and injured children.
Gianni drives the Helping Hands Van, kindly donated by our national corporate partner, Hyundai Help for Kids, which allows the team to transport families and essential supplies safely and efficiently. His volunteer shifts on Thursday mornings involve picking up families, running supply errands, and moving items between our Houses and Family Rooms. No shift is ever the same!
For Gianni, the most rewarding part of volunteering isn’t the task themselves – it’s the human connection.
“The moments that stay with me are the small interactions with families – a quick chat, a thank you, or even just a smile on a tough day. You really get a sense of how much the service helps, and that’s what keeps me coming back.”
Gianni encourages anyone considering volunteering to take the leap. For him, stepping into this role has been a chance to experience something completely different from his professional life – yet equally meaningful.
Thank you, Gianni, for going the extra mile to ensure families feel supported during their most challenging moments.
