Helping hands make happy hearts
Without our team of dedicated and hard-working volunteers we couldn’t do all the things we need to do to care for the families with ill or injured children who need our support. We depend on our team of dedicated volunteers to help us run our programs, events, and support families going through some of their toughest times.
Volunteering is a great way to use your skills and meet new people, all while making a difference to families with ill or injured children. At RMHC SEQ, small acts make a big difference. For most of our roles, you don’t need any special skills, just a compassionate heart and the ability to commit to regular shifts. Everyone already knows how to do the things that make the biggest difference at RMHC SEQ.
Volunteers have the choice of working in our Ronald McDonald Houses, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, or at our fundraising events.
We offer a range of house roles, hospital roles (our family rooms are located within the hospitals) or specialist roles. You can choose to work at South Brisbane, Herston, at Southport on the Gold Coast, or at one of our many events throughout South East Queensland.
Event volunteers assist at events such as: golf days, sporting events, race days, 50/50 Charity Raffles, gala balls and more larger events coming in 2025.
Events volunteers do not need to commit to regular rostered shifts, so this is a great way to volunteer if you have a busy life and can’t commit to regular shifts.
Volunteering at RMHC SEQ is rewarding way you can help support families with ill or injured children. We can offer you:
RMHC SEQ volunteers are the heart of all our programs and every volunteer makes a difference to each and every family that requires our services. We ask that you commit to:
Please not: Event volunteers do not need to commit to regular rostered shifts.
Book in for one of our online information sessions and find out why volunteering with us is so rewarding.
Once you’ve attended an information session, we’ll send you an email with a link so you can complete an application through MyImpact. We will then be in contact with you directly to organise a meet and greet onsite.
There are few things we need to do before you can start volunteering with us. This includes mandatory checks and some online training. We’ll also need you to sign a volunteer agreement.
Hospital based volunteers are required to complete additional hospital-based onboarding requirements and to be vaccinated against preventable diseases.
Our team will assist you with this at no cost to yourself.
Once you’ve completed all your compliance checks and onboarding, it’s time to start your training shifts. This is usually between 3 to 6 shifts that you undertake with another volunteer or your supervisor until you feel comfortable.
Once you have completed your training/buddy shifts, you’ll be ready to put your helping hands to good use as a fully-fledged volunteer! We’ll provide you with a welcome pack, a volunteer polo shirt and we’ll confirm your schedule with you.
Parents don’t know when their children will need medical help. But they should know they can always access the care they need. With your help, we can support them all throughout their journey.
