We are thrilled to share some exciting news – Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland (RMHC SEQ) has been awarded Gold Coast Community Organisation of the Year (Large) at the prestigious Gold Coast Volunteer Awards, hosted by Volunteering Gold Coast!
The Gold Coast Volunteer Awards celebrate the incredible contributions of individuals and organisations who dedicate their time and energy to making a positive impact in the community. Among categories like Volunteer of the Year, Youth Volunteer of the Year, and Corporate Social Impact Award, the Community Organisation of the Year award recognises charities that go above and beyond to support local families.
Our nomination, submitted by Hospital Programs Manager Kerry Carlton, highlighted the vital role of our Gold Coast Family Room volunteers. These amazing volunteers create a warm, welcoming space for families for families at the Paediatric Inpatient Unit Family Room and Newborn Care Unit Family Room. In 2024 alone, our overnight rooms in the Newborn Care Unit supported 65 families, while our Family Room Programs welcomed over 25,000 visitors. We also proudly support Gold Coast families through our House programs, with nearly 5% of families coming from this region.
The awards night was a dazzling 1920s-themed celebration, and we were honoured to attend alongside a lively mix of volunteers and staff. When RMHC SEQ was announced as the winner, the cheers from our table were deafening! The moment was made even more special by a video showcasing our Gold Coast Family Rooms and featuring heartfelt messages from volunteers about why they choose to give their time to RMHC SEQ.
A highlight of the evening was having Jean Hyland, our longest-serving volunteer who recently celebrated 25 years of service, join us for this incredible achievement. This award is a testament to the dedication and passion of our volunteers who make a real difference for families every single day.
We couldn’t be prouder of this recognition – it belongs to every volunteer, supporter, and staff member who helps us keep families together and cared for when they need it most.
Thank you, Gold Coast, for celebrating the power of volunteering!
