Our Learning Program

Ensuring ill or injured children get the best chance at education.

The Ronald McDonald Learning Program assists school-aged children with a serious illness or injury to catch up on missed education following treatment and recovery.

The program provides a suite of educational support services, including therapy sessions and one-on-one tutorials with experienced teachers that are tailored to the student’s individual needs.

We aim to build each child’s confidence and self-esteem in preparation for their return to the classroom. All services are free to families thanks to funding from our generous Ronald McDonald House Charities supporters.

Making Milestones

Chronic health conditions and ongoing medical treatment can impact a child’s early development, meaning they might struggle to reach some of the key developmental milestones.

Making Milestones is a program for children aged between 3 and 5 whose development has been impacted due to treatment for a chronic health condition. It is also open to siblings who are in the target age range.

The program focuses on developing the skills needed by the child to begin schooling, as well as assisting parents or carers to support their child’s further development.

Families are offered up to 12 specialist sessions with a selected service including an initial specialist assessment and progress report at completion. The types of therapy offered include music therapy, play therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, brain balance therapy, sensory and social educator, and kid’s physio.

A serious illness or injury can make life stand still. Making any progress – whether it be in your education or career – can feel almost impossible. That’s why our scholarship program exists.
By awarding one-off grants of up to $5,000 to deserving young people, we’re giving them the chance to get their schooling or career back on track. So whether the money goes towards university fees, apprenticeship tools, books or supplies, the RMHC Charlie Bell Scholarship program is there to help them succeed.

Teach with us

The Ronald McDonald Learning Program gives teachers a chance to help seriously ill or injured children to catch up on their missed education.

Teachers are paid on an hourly basis to tutor students recovering from illness or injury at the student’s school or local community facility. Each student receives up to 40 weeks of tutoring, usually completed for an hour each week over four school terms.
