A few weeks ago, Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland (RMHC SEQ) hosted its annual Jingle and Mingle event – a Christmas in July celebration recognising the incredible impact of its volunteer community.
Held at the Rose & Crown Pub, the event brought together volunteers from across the organisation to reflect, connect and celebrate. With the venue transformed into a cosy Winter Wonderland, the afternoon was filled with festive touches, laughter, and a strong sense of community.
We rely on our dedicated team of volunteers who support families with ill or injured children – offering not just time, but compassion, empathy and a sense of stability during life’s most challenging moments. From Guest Ambassadors who welcome families into our Houses, to Family Room volunteers providing comfort within hospital walls – every role plays a vital part. Jingle and Mingle is an opportunity to honour that work and express deep appreciation for the people who make it possible.
Guests mingled on arrival before sitting down for a shared lunch. A ‘best dressed’ competition saw some creative winter-themed outfits, with Hospital Programs Team Leader, Heather Divine, taking out the prize for her snowboarder ensemble, and honourable mentions go to Kimmy and Belinda for their efforts.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was a heartfelt speech from Executive Manager of Impact, Shane Simmons, who spoke about the vital role volunteers play in bringing the RMHC SEQ mission to life. His words offered a meaningful pause to reflect on how everyday acts of kindness – a warm welcome, a helping hand, a steady presence – come together to make an extraordinary difference for families in need.
The celebration continued with a festive Menti quiz created and hosted by Volunteer Manager, Bec Treby, bringing out plenty of friendly competition and laughter. A cheerful exchange of Secret Santa followed which brought even more joy to the day.
Behind the scenes, the event was made possible by the hardworking RMHC SEQ Volunteering team, who poured such care and creativity into making the celebration a success.
Jingle and Mingle is more than just a social event – it’s a meaningful tradition that recognises the heart and humanity behind the organisation’s work. Volunteers play an irreplaceable role in the RMHC SEQ community, and this annual gathering is a small but heartfelt thank you for the difference they make in the lives of so many families.
If you’ve ever thought about giving back in a meaningful way, now is a great time to get involved. RMHC SEQ is always looking for compassionate, community-minded people to join our incredible team of volunteers.
