Farlow Family
For Jack and Heidi from Gracemere in Central Queensland, life changed in an instant when a routine pregnancy scan revealed that their first baby, Cai, was not growing as he should.
Providing comfort and practical support for families right within the hospital.
When a child is in hospital, small comforts matter. Through our Family Room and Hospitality Cart Programs, offered free of charge at Queensland Children’s Hospital and Gold Coast University Hospital, we provide a welcoming space and deliver everyday essentials to families, so they can focus on what matters most.
Hospitality Cart
The Hospitality Cart is a volunteer-led service that delivers practical support to families in hospital. From snacks, drinks, toiletries to activity packs, these small gestures make a big difference for families spending long hours in the hospital. The cart will focus on outpatient areas like the Emergency Department, Short Stay, Medical Imaging and other clinics.
Family Room
Step away from the clinical environment of the wards and into a warm, welcoming space where you can rest, reconnect, and relax. The Queensland Children’s Hospital Family Room features a cosy lounge, a kitchenette with complimentary refreshments, and a play area filled with toys, books, games, and activities that make a world of difference during a child’s hospital stay.
Family Room
The Gold Coast University Hospital Newborn Care Unit Family Room is a true home for families with babies receiving care. Designed to help parents step away from the wards, this inviting space offers a cosy lounge, kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities, and even overnight rooms for those who need to stay nearby. Families can gather around the dining table, enjoy a puzzle for little ones, or use the dedicated workspace while balancing hospital life. This space provides comfort and connection when it’s needed most.
Family Room
Our Gold Coast University Hospital Paediatric Inpatient Unit Family Room is a dedicated space for families to rest and recharge while supporting their ill or injured child. This calming environment features a lounge area, children’s play space, and a kitchen – the only location within the unit where families can prepare a tea or coffee or have a snack. Additional amenities include bathroom and laundry facilities, creating a practical and welcoming retreat away from the clinical setting of the wards.
Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are free and open to all families with children receiving treatment at the hospital. Families do not need to stay at a Ronald McDonald House to be eligible to access the Family Rooms.
Thanks to the generous support of our community, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are provided free of charge – helping families to focus on what matters most.
Behind every stay is a story of strength, courage and love – a reminder that families are strongest when supported.
